Start with your own measurements, or load the clearly labeled example. A pocket seam depth is not necessarily a rated mattress-fit maximum.

A positive measured height and a stated mattress-fit maximum are required. Pocket seam depth alone is not a fit rating.
No protector allowance is added to a finished measurement. In layer mode, include only measured added height. Re-measure after laundering and check elastic condition and corner orientation.
Pocket depth versus mattress-fit range
Measure the width, length and finished height of everything the covering must enclose. If a protector sits below the topper, its covered height differs from the sheet’s. A fitted protector is not a six-sided zipped encasement.
Worked example: a 13-inch mattress plus 2-inch topper measures 15 inches before any measurable added height. If the finished stack measures 15.5 inches, use 15.5 directly. Brooklinen’s Classic Percale size guide gives a 16-inch mattress-fit maximum: 15.5 is below it. Choosing a 1-inch personal margin would exceed the remaining half inch, but does not make the manufacturer rating fail.
Do not assume a universal half-inch protector allowance or two-inch extra pocket rule. Avocado’s standard protector lists a 15-inch product profile but a 6–16 inch mattress-fit range. Construction and stretch explain why a product dimension and a fit rating are different facts.
Before a purchase, recheck the exact model, size and pocket version. Confirm care instructions and the actual seller’s return terms, including opened bedding. Direct-brand terms do not automatically apply to another retailer.
